HIRAM- Frederick Alfred Glatzer Jr. age 83, passed away peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior on June 22, 2023, at his son's home in Hiram, Maine.
He was born in Lynn, Massachusetts on February 24, 1940, the son of the late Frederick Glatzer and Helen (Schubert) Glatzer.
After graduating from Lynn English High school in 1957 he went on to attend Essex Agricultural School to learn how to farm. He loved tending the cattle and learning how to tend the fields and harvest the hay for the cows. It was his desire to live on the family farm up in Porter, Maine after graduating, having his own animals and caring for them.
After moving to Maine, he met the love of his life, Linda Pendexter. They were married on November 24, 1962. He was drafted into the US Army on January 8, 1963. He went on to serve as an MP at Fort Gordon in Georgia and Fort Drum in New York. He and Linda lived on base in Georgia as he served. He was Honorably discharged on January 7, 1965, and they moved back to Maine.
Fred started his working career as a carpenter, locally working for Corliss Sargent, Linda’s uncle and also for Maurice Davis. Later he worked for Howard Saturley at Industrial Box and Lumber in Kezar Falls as a maintenance man and eventually became the saw filer as well. He then went on to work in the Kezar Falls Woolen Mill as an electrician for a couple of years. He then went on to work for Win Smith at Limington Lumber in East Baldwin as saw filer until his retirement.
He moved his family up on the farm in Porter after the passing of his Dad in 1972 to stay with his mom and care for her. This was the start of his farming career. He had many cattle over the years as well as pigs. He loved “Haying” with his neighbor, Lyndon Metcalf for many years. They helped each other fill their barns with hay for their cattle each summer. He also enjoyed cutting firewood to burn each winter to keep his family warm.
Fred was predeceased by his son Christopher in 1963, 2 other infant children. His granddaughter Shanan Loud in 2012. His beloved wife Linda in 2018. His sister Eleanore Anderson in 2019. His Brother-in-law Loring (Sam) Anderson in 2022.
Fred is survived by his children Russell Glatzer and his wife Stephenie of Hiram, Denise Glatzer-Morse and husband Brian of Hiram. 5 grandchildren Caleb and girlfriend Emily, Emma and partner Gabriella, Sydnie Glatzer, Cole Miller and his wife Abby and Keira Greene. 6 great grandchildren Bayley and Evyn Edgerly, Daisy Miller and Peyton, Ryleigh and Matthew Godin.
