Obituary

In Loving Memory of Troy Keith Thompson
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved friend and brother Troy Keith Thompson, who departed from this world on June 24th 2023, in Oxnard, California at 60 years old, after a long illness.
Troy grew up on a farm in Maxbass, North Dakota to his Parents Veryl J. Thompson ("Bud"), Anna Lou Jones Thompson and brother Scott. Troy was born on January 30th, 1963. Troy attended Maxbass High School in N.D. While Troy was always proud of where he came from and never lost his country values, He had dreams of living in California...so off he set on a great adventure.
He moved to Southern California at 18 years old and started his adventure working at the Gene Autry Hotel in Palms Springs, CA as a poolside waiter and parking cars, then was trained to be a Table Side Waiter and Bartender. He also was employed as an Oil Driller, ironworker and would often return home to work on the family farm in N.D.
Troy found and fell in love with Oxnard, CA, and worked as a Bartender at The Rudder Room on Hollywood Beach for 30 years, a longtime family-owned business. He loved his friends and customers, along with bartending, cooking, music, dancing, writing poetry and reuniting with family and friends from N.D. He loved bringing his dog, Ruby, to Hollywood Beach, during his shift, even though the volleyball players didn't.
Everybody that met him became immediately enamored by his love and passion for life. He wanted to drink it all up, every last sip of it. He never said no to an adventure whether it be Bungee Jumping, heading off to Burning Man or any type of road trip. He loved people and would always say, "Has anybody told you that they love you today? Well, I do". He lived his life on his own terms. He was one of a kind. The most important thing to say about Troy Thompson is that he made a difference.
Troy is survived by his soulmate Marguerite "Rita " French of Oxnard, CA., his brother Scott (wife Brenda), his nephews Cody (wife Olivia and their children, Austen, Carter and Laney), Tyler (wife Kelsey and their children, Tate, Teagan and Tenley), his nieces Autum and Emmie Lou, from Westhope, North Dakota.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes to extend gratitude to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for the cottages for families of patients that need AVM Brain Surgery and/or ICU, St. Johns, Oxnard Manor and Mission Hospice in California. Join us to celebrate his life at Rudder Room, 2929 Ocean Drive, Oxnard, Ca, on August 15th at 11:45am.
Sunny side up, Troy.
