Obituary

James V. "Jimmy" McCallum, a 47 year resident of Somerville and formerly of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 following a lengthy illness. He was 80 years of age.

Jimmy was born in Boston on January 9, 1943, a son of the late George H. McCallum and Margaret C. (Murphy) McCallum. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Brighton High School. Jimmy was an accomplished athlete in his youth, excelling in various sports. He received a partial scholarship to play hockey at Brown University but turned it down to enter the work force to provide for his family. Jimmy was more than a 30 year member and Past President of the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local #17. Following his retirement from Local #17, Jimmy worked for the MBTA at the Everett Barn. Public service was very important to Jimmy, which is why he served as an Alderman for Somerville's Ward 4 and was the Commissioner of the Somerville Housing Authority. Jimmy enjoyed playing golf every day and was a member of a league at Mt. Hood Golf Course in Melrose, where he won a few championships. He was a member of the Bunker Hill Council # 62, Knights of Columbus and the Old Charlestown Schoolboys Association.

Jimmy is the beloved husband of 48 years to Connie (Boyle) McCallum. He is the loving brother of the late Francis "Frank McCallum and his late wife Gerri, Richard "Dickie" McCallum and his late wife Mary, Roy McCallum, Donald "Donnie" McCallum, and Timothy "Tippy" McCallum. He is the beloved brother-in-law of Annette Kalimuddin. He is also survived by his nieces; Susan Huddleston of TX, and Carrie Tillery of CA.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Jimmy' Funeral Mass on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at 12Noon in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. Parking Attendants Provided. His burial will be private. There are no funeral home visiting hours.
