Ruth Marshall Marr, 88 of Franklin, formerly of Ashland, Groton, and Framingham passed peacefully on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at Benchmark Senior Living at Forge Hill’s Mind and Memory Care unit, The Harbor.
She was the wife of the late Marshall I. Marr who died in 1985.
Born and raised in Framingham, she was the daughter of the late William James and Marion S. (Sawyer) Marshall Jr. She was predeceased by her beloved sister, Jean M. Hulme.
She is survived by her son, Gordon M. Marr and his wife Karen of Clifton, VA, and her daughter Tamsen J. Coffey and her husband Joseph of Franklin, MA; her grandchildren Amanda Marr and Christopher Marr of Clifton, VA and Lauren DeLeo and her husband Nicholas of North Dighton, MA; her great-grandsons Dominic and Benjamin DeLeo; her sister-in-law Carolyn Marr of Franklin; and her cherished nieces, nephew, their spouses and children.
Ruth graduated from The University of Massachusetts, Amherst with a degree in Home Economics Education. She taught for many years at Hale Middle School in Stow, MA first teaching Home Economics and then Social Studies.
While in Groton, Ruth volunteered at the Union Congregational Church. Marshall and Ruth actively supported the Rotary Club of Groton and were both designated as Paul Harris Fellows by The Rotary Foundation. While living in Ashland, she volunteered at Grace Congregational Church creating numerous quilted crafts and baked treats to support church events.
Ruth was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend. She was also a dedicated teacher not only to the many students who passed through her classroom, but to anyone who wished to learn the joy of cooking and the art of sewing.
At Ruth’s request, there will be no visitation or services. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date for family and friends.
