Cynthia R. (Bilby) Smith, 67, a Lowell resident, passed away peacefully after a longtime illness at her residence in Wakefield Center on Saturday afternoon. She was the widow of the late Daniel Smith.
Cindy was born on April 17, 1956 in Lowell and was a daughter of the late Ross Bilby and the late Ruth (Reilly) Bilby. She was raised and educated in Lowell’s Christian Hill neighborhood.
She persevered through a courageous battle with serious health issues most of her life. Despite her disabilities, she searched out every opportunity to volunteer her time helping the community including with the downtown Lowell Food Pantries and within the Lowell Public Schools. She also attended college and made the Dean's list.
Cindy loved trips to the beach, mini golfing with her daughter and granddaughters, attending family gatherings with her sisters, and crocheting in her spare time.
She is survived by her daughter, Kristen Danielle Smith, her grandchildren, Juliarna Haddock and Cassandra Smith. As well as her five siblings, Jeffrey Bilby of New Hampshire, Jennifer Jones of Lowell, Joyce Bernier of Lowell, Janice Bilby of Lowell, Allison Byron of Dracut, many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Stephen Bilby.
All are welcome to attend her funeral service. Please gather at the McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell, MA on Friday, July 7, at 9:15 a.m. for procession to Lowell Cemetery for burial. The services will take place at the cemetery at approximately 9:30 a.m. and will be streamed on Facebook.
