Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Robert J. "Bob" Duffney, Sr., 84, of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Monday, July 3, 2023. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Boston on April 5, 1939, a beloved son of the late Irene E. (Duffney) Patson. He was raised and educated in Springfield where he lived most of his life. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and attained the rank of Sergeant First Class. He received the Bronze Star Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Devices, the Vietnam Civil Action Honor Medal First Class, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Meritorious Unit Citation, the German Marksmanship Gold Badge and the Good Conduct Medal. Following his military service, he was employed as the Head Trainer for Needles Consultants in Baltimore, MD and retired in 2020. He was a member of the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Springfield, the Vietnam Veterans’ Association Chapter 111 and a founding father of the Vietnam American Vietnamese Association Pioneer Valley Chapter. Bob enjoyed riding his Harley on the open road and was a proud member of the Harley Davidson Owners Group. In his younger days, he was an amazing roller skater and often was found at the former Rialto and the Roll-A-Way skating rinks. He enjoyed flying drones, flight simulation, performing magic tricks, playing the guitar and singing. Most of all, Bob treasured his time being with his wife, his family and his many friends. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Pauline D. (White) Duffney. They were married on January 21, 1961 at Holy Family Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 62 years of happiness together. He also leaves his four loving children, Robert J. Duffney, Jr. and his spouse, Frances, of Savannah, GA, Theresa A. Kane and her spouse, Patrick M. Kane, Sr., and Lisa R. Duffney and her partner, Derik D. Raiford, all of Springfield and AnnMarie Luc and her spouse, Hao, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; his 12 cherished grandchildren, Robert Duffney III and his spouse, Lindsey, Leigh-Anne Duffney, Sarah Carroll and her spouse, Patrick, Amanda Kane-Colon and her spouse, Marisol Colon, Patrick "P.J." Kane, Jr. and his partner, Lora Hill, Samantha Alicea and her spouse, Abi Alicea, Xavier Reyes, Kianeesa Reyes, Kaylena Reyes, Elani Raiford and Cameron and Cassandra Luc; his four cherished great grandchildren, Tierney and Brennan Carroll and Colton and Easton Alicea; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition to his mother, he was predeceased by his five dear siblings, Pamela, Sandra, Sheila, Paul and Susan. His family will receive friends on Monday, July 10, 2023 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107. His Funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 beginning at the funeral home at 8 a.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 9 a.m. His Committal Service with United States Army Military Honors will follow the Funeral Service at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001.
