WEBSTER – Gregory J. Caskey, 71, died Saturday July 1, 2023 at UMass/Memorial Medical campus after nearly a five year battle with pancreatic cancer. He had his sister and nephew by his side.
He leaves 2 sisters, Karen Perfetti of Duluth, MN and Beverly Williams of Webster, with whom he lived; a brother, Robert S. Caskey of Duluth, MN; 6 nephews, 4 nieces, 4 great-nephews and 6 great nieces; and many friends in the Orlando area.
He was born in Duluth on March 21, 1952 and raised there, the third child of Robert L. and Martha Caskey (Adamski) and graduated from Duluth Denfeld High School. He completed studies at Saint Scholastica College and later at the University of Minnesota, Duluth. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, serving for 4 years. He then spent 34 years as a dispatcher with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad, living in Minneapolis and then Fort Worth, TX, before retiring.
In his retirement, he relocated to Florida where he quickly made friends that soon became his family. He spent many afternoons at their local spots, sharing laughter and stories, taking great pride in updating friends about his nieces and nephews. In January, he moved to Webster to live with his sister and best friend, Beverly, where their daily phone calls turned to visits over coffee and games of cribbage. He loved playing cards, and never turned down an opportunity to best one of his family members in a game.
A memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on July 28, 2023 in Saint Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb Street. Entombment in the columbarium will follow in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace, with military honors provided by Webster-Dudley Veterans Council. Donations in his name may be made to either Saint Joseph Elementary School, 47 Whitcomb Street, Webster or to the for Pancreatic cancer research at UMASS Memorial Health Cancer Center.
