Obituary

ELVIN KAMAKA SPENCER, (84) beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother from Oxnard, CA passed away peacefully in the early morning of June 22, 2023, at her son's Oxnard home with her husband, George (Jr) and her family by her side. Elvin was born in Kona, Hawaii on November 28, 1938. She graduated from Farrington High School in 1956. She married George A.T. Spencer, Jr. in Kona, Hawaii on April 3, 1965. Later that year George and Elvin moved to Oxnard, California. Elvin earn an associate's degree from Ventura College and continued to work toward her accounting degree at the University of LaVerne. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends cooking delicious meals and participating in many activities. She loved being part of the Hawaiian Club of Oxnard and later joined the Ka Hale Hula O Pilialohaokalani O Hilo where she danced hula with her two oldest granddaughters and taught ukulele to the children of the Halau.

Elvin's gift of hospitality was unrivaled. Her smile was infectious, and her encouragement was felt by all who had the pleasure of being around her. She brought the best dishes to any potluck and she was always quick to share her recipes. "It's easy," she would say. But we all knew it was easier to let her make it for you than to attempt to recreate it. She really would be happy to make it for you, whatever it was, Beef Stew, Spareribs, Shoyu Chicken and Rice, Blueberry Cream Cheese Pie.

Elvin is survived by her husband, George A.T. Spencer, Jr., her two children George III and Joy, their spouses Sylvia and Bruce, five grandchildren Kiana, Malia, Jacob, Cassie, Bella and one great granddaughter Alana, Elvin's youngest sister Faith Horner in Moloka'i and numerous nieces and nephews.
