Gina DePina-Pires, 34, passed away suddenly on Friday June 30, 2023.
A woman of many traits, Gina will be fondly remembered for her contagious smile. She became skilled with hair at a young age and after her graduation from New Bedford High School she continued her passion as a hairstylist. She was well-known for producing the best hairstyles. Though she styled hair in many ways, she specialized in cornrow styles. Everyone wanted her to braid their hair.
Gina enjoyed being with her family and friends and her pride and joy was her son Naijion. She will be remembered for having deep conversations, as she could talk for hours. Whenever someone needed a person to talk to, she made sure to take time to lend a caring, listening ear. She enjoyed eating all kinds of seafood and her sweet soul, craved sweet things like cotton candy. Her free spirit guided her into spontaneous adventures, like day trips to different states, hiking, waterskiing, and motor sports.
Gina had a huge heart, and because of this she never left anyone behind. Her love will never be forgotten.
She is survived by her beloved son, Naijion Abreu; her parents, Julia and Damiao DeBarros; her siblings, Danny Barros, Deanna DeBarros, Jeremy DeBarros, Damien DeBarros, Javone DeBarros, and Gianni DeBarros, her nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly, Aiden Barros, Julius DePina, Anelise Merkman, Jordan Merkman, and Luxury DeBarros; and her grandfather, Oliveros DePina. She also leaves behind a large family of aunts and uncles, and a tight pack of cousins.
She was predeceased by her grandmothers, Eugenia DePina, Eugenia Pires, and Amelia Barros.
Her funeral will be held on Saturday July 8th at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM. Visiting hours will be on Friday July 7th from 4-8 PM. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery. For online condolence book, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
