BUXTON- James (Jim) E. Fitz, 77, of Buxton, ME, died from complications of a sudden illness on July 2, 2023, at Maine Medical Center surrounded by his loved ones. Jim was born March 16, 1946, to Maxine and Elmer Fitz in Bangor, Maine.
He enlisted in the Army when he was 21 years old. Jim met Peggy in 1968, when they were introduced by their dear friend Peggy Mathis in Watertown, MA and got married November 13, 1971.
Jim worked for UPS for over 25 years as a New England District Manager. Soon after he retired, he opened Haley Road Garage in Hollis, ME. He and his son Todd then purchased Route 202 Trailer Sales in Buxton, ME in 1999.
Jim had a great life. You could find him visiting many different racetracks, traveling in his RV, hunting & fishing, snowmobiling and spending time with his grandkids. He raced at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway for many years, some of those years alongside his son Todd, with many successful Wild Cat Championships. Jim mostly enjoyed spending weekends at his camp in Belgrade that he built with family and friends. Belgrade was a special place to him where friends and family gathered & many boat rides and parties were had. You could always find Jim telling stories around the campfire.
More recently, you could find Jim bowling with his buddies at the Big 20, daily lunches at Chaps and daily talks with the Skips Breakfast Club. Jim was known for giving the shirt off his back to anyone in need.
Jim is survived by his sisters Sue Fitz and Lois Carter of Glenburn, ME. Daughter Sherry Huckaby and husband Michael of New Port Richey, FL, his daughter Andrea of Buxton, ME, his daughter Amy Ayotte and son in law Jeff of Gorham, ME. Grandchildren Ryan and Sara Roushandel, Nicholas and Abigail Fitz, Courtney and Tyler Fitz, Caleb and Katie Gooch, Grayson and Bode Ayotte. Great Grand Children, Sky and Sophie Roushandel and future great granddaughter Aspen due August 1st and many nieces and nephews and several special friends.
Jim is predeceased by his sons Jimmy Jr., Todd Fitz and his wife Peggy of 51 years along with his brother Ed Fitz and sister Beverly Duran.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday July 6th from 3 - 6 PM at the Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service Chapel, 498 Long Plains Road (Rt. 22) in Buxton.
A graveside service will be held on Friday morning at 11 AM at South Buxton Cemetery (Woodman/newer section) on Woodman Road in Buxton where he will be laid to rest next to his wife Peggy and son Todd. A celebration of life will follow at Chaps Saloon 1301 Long Plains Road Buxton, ME.
