Obituary




Dennis James Vargus of Chelsea passed away surrounded by the love of his family at Care Dimensions Hospice House of Lincoln on Friday, June 30, 2023. He was 57. Raised in Chelsea and East Boston, Dennis was the son of the late William S. and the late Joan A. (Thornell) Vargus.

Dennis worked throughout his life as a mechanic. For the past 13 years he worked with the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority. He was a man of many interests. He loved music and played the guitar throughout his life. He had a great collection of guitars and amplifiers which he collected over the years. He enjoyed making models and fixing things around the house. He enjoyed boating and is fondly remembered for coaching Chelsea Little League and Pop Warner. His culinary loves included popsicles, bananas and ice cream. He was a master calzone chef and took great pride in sharing that talent with his grandson Nickolas. Nothing brought him more joy in life than his family. He cherished his time with his wife, daughters, son and grandson.

The beloved husband of Kim (Tucker) Vargus, he was a loving father to Rachelle Heckman and her husband Paul of Saugus, Dennis Vargus of Chelsea, Justine Vargus and her significant other, Jake Patti of Chelsea. He was also the proud grandfather of Nickolas Heckman. The brother of William Vargus of East Boston, Dennis was the son-in-law of Lorraine Tucker and the late Gerald Tucker of Medford. He also leaves his sister-in-law Stephanie Kent of Everett and brother-in-law Geoffrey Tucker and his wife Jodie of Leominster, and many dear nieces and nephews. Dennis also leaves his close friends, Joe and Danielle Szalkowski of Chelsea and Randy and Lorraine Ladderbush of Saugus.

Services will be held privately and for those who wish, in lieu of flowers, may honor Dennis' memory by making a contribution in his name to Care Dimensions Hospice House, 125 Winter St., Lincoln, MA 01773.
