James (Darrell) Brizendine, 79, of Anderson passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on June 28, 2023.
Darrell was born on August 18, 1943 in Anderson. He was the son of James and Geneva (Harreld)Brizendine. Darrell attended Linwood Elementary, Frankton High School Class of 1961, and Ball State University. Darrell taught social studies at Highland High School from 1966 to 2001. He was the faculty sponsor of the SADD organization and Scared Straight at HHS. He was was a lifelong farmer and resident of Madison County.
Darrell was an active first responder in Madison County with EMA for 36 years. He also worked as an employee of the County Election Board.
Darrell will be remembered as a kind, humorous, and caring man who was devoted to his family and friends. He was happiest when his loved ones were at his home for the holidays and family occasions. He was always proud to reconnect with former students and colleagues.
Darrell is survived by his loving wife, Sandra (Skinner) of 53 years; his two sons, Jason, (Melissa) Brizendine of Alexandria; Eric (Teresa) Brizendine of Anderson, and Jimmy McDermitt, who was loved like a son. He is also survived by grandchildren India, Mason (Paisley), Morgan (Austin) Boss, Alex (Kyler), Liberty, and two great-grandsons, Levi and Henry. He is also survived by his sister, Fran Folsom; nephew, James Huffman (Beth); niece, Susan Dewitt; nephews Byron and Aaron (Deb) Folsom; great nephew, David Dewitt; and great niece Brett (Tim) Ahlersmeyer.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, several aunts and uncles, cousins, brother-in-laws Myron Folsom; Don and Dale Skinner; sister-in-laws Pat (Jim) VanNatter and Crystal (Cliff) Jackson.
The funeral services will be on July 6, 2023 at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Home in Anderson. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a Celebration of Life immediately following.
