Richard Davis “Dick” Garrett, Jr., (aka “Dr. Dawg”), 74, of Tifton passed away Thursday, June 29, 2023, at his residence surrounded by his family. His funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 2, 2023, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Rickey Wells officiating. Mr. Garrett will be laid to rest at Omega Cemetery in a private family burial. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 2, 2023, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals from 2:00 p.m. until the hour of the service.
Born January 20, 1949, in Moultrie, Mr. Garrett was the son of the late Richard Davis Garrett, Sr. and Vivienne Patrick Garrett. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Carol Burns and his step-mother, Nell Garrett. Before retiring he was the owner and pharmacist at Guy’s Drug Store in Downtown Tifton. He graduated from Colquitt County High School and was a graduate of the University of Georgia and the University of Georgia Pharmacy School. He loved UGA football, cooking, golf, yard work and growing tomatoes.
Mr. Garrett is survived by his wife, Catina McFarland Garrett of Tifton; one son and daughter-in-law, Jon and Rebecca Garrett of Rochelle; one brother and sister-in-law, Pat and Rhonda Garrett of Rome; one sister and brother-in-law, Elaine and Ron Dutton of Atlanta; a sister-in-law and her husband, Robbie and Jim Pope of Tifton; three grandchildren, Ryan Garrett of Athens and Braxton Garrett and Bethany Garrett, both of Rochelle; his niece and special Hospice caregiver, Wendy Spurlin; numerous nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
