Laura Jeanette O’Donnell, was born to Dixie and Gladys Booker in Charleston, Arkansas. The family moved to California in the late 1930s, settling in Ventura, where she lived most of her younger life and graduated from Ventura High School.
Jeanette succumbed to the ravages of dementia and congestive heart failure. Jeanette was an amazing and strong woman; surviving many different cancers and several other major surgeries. Having arthritis from her early forties, she was in extreme pain, but kept on going; She would say, “I need to do this as long as I can”. She was a fighter and survivor.
Jeanette worked as a grocery checker for many years before moving on to work as a receptionist at ADB Systems, a business and accounting firm. She recalled the owner of ADB calling her into his office to tell her that she was selling more from the receptionist desk than most of the sales associates. She was promoted and retired from ADB in 1994 finally settling in Camarillo.
She enjoyed spending meaningful time with family and friends, playing bingo, and serving as chauffeur for her cronies on outings to Lofland, Nevada. She was a devoted mother and her grandchildren were the light of her life, adoring them unendingly. She has sorely missed them as they moved on making their own lives.
She was preceded in death by parents Dixie and Gladys Booker, Daughter Dixie Leann Gallegos, husband Louis Kimes and Don O’Rear, siblings Charles Booker, and Genevieve Hester.
She is survived by her children; Tommy Kay Riddle, Don Jeffery O’Rear, Douglas Charles O’Rear, nieces and nephews, numerous grandchildren and, great-grandchildren.
She has been cremated; there will be no services in honor of her request. Arrangements are under the direction of the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, Ventura.
