Acushnet- Kathy Ann Mello, age 63, passed away on the 28th of June surrounded by her loving family after fighting a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Kathy was born in New Bedford, MA, daughter of Elizabeth Mello of Acushnet and the late Bruce Mello. Kathy was employed at Shaws Supermarket and eventually worked in the New Bedford School System working as a cafeteria aid. Kathy loved all things shopping, dining out, and playing the slots at Foxwoods. Kathy rarely missed a sporting event for her nephew Ryan and niece Halle. She also enjoyed her weekly trips to Zumba class with her mom. Kathy especially loved the time she spent with her family, more recently her great niece and nephews. In the summer, you could find Kathy in her garden feeding the birds followed by an early morning swim in the pool. The cold water never stopped her from doing her daily exercise. Kathy especially missed her late dog Mia and loved being surrounded by animals when she could. Her laugh, smile and very generous heart will be missed forever. A very special thank you to her family members who cared for her during her illness, the Southcoast VNA, especially her favorite nurse Meaghan, CNA Maria, and her many doctors and nurses at Mass General Hospital, Dana Farber and Southcoast for their understanding and utmost care.
Kathy is survived by her mother Elizabeth Mello of Acushnet; sister Kim Silva of Acushnet and her husband Edward; nephew Ryan Silva of Acushnet and his wife Adrienne; niece Halle Young of Acushnet and her husband Jeremy and 3 very special great niece/nephews; Cadence and Alton Silva and Hudson Young.
