Obituary

Cynthia J. (Flynn) Rainville, 66, of Salem, passed away in her home on Sunday, June 25, 2023, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was the loving and devoted wife of Thomas A. Rainville, with whom she shared 44 years of marriage.
Born in Queens, New York and raised in Salem, she was the daughter of the late John J. and Jean A. (Cronan) Flynn. She was a graduate of Salem High School and received her Bachelor’s Degree from Salem State College. Cindy was employed as a Claims Manager for the Holyoke Insurance Co. of Salem for nearly twenty-five years.
Cindy enjoyed any time spent with her closest family and friends. Enjoying a cup of tea while simultaneously “spilling the tea” was a favorite pastime. She was also an avid ice cream lover, and venturing to the Willows to enjoy a chop suey sandwich could never be completely ruled out. To those that had the good fortune to know her, she was a friend for life, and a beacon of goodwill. She was never one to shy away from someone in need, rather, she was first in line to help. Selfless to a fault, she was always looking to help anyone she could, and was keen to make as many friends as she could along the way. She would never sugarcoat a situation; you could always count on her to give things to you straight - without any “fluff”. Her fighting spirit kept her going, even when all the odds were stacked against her. She particularly enjoyed being with children and was very happy that she got to see both her sons get married, and meet her first granddaughter! Cindy was eternally kind to the last, an endless inspiration, and a tireless friend. In addition to her husband Tom, she is survived by their sons, Andrew T. Rainville and wife Lauren of Rowley, Gregory A. Rainville and wife Elizabeth of Amesbury, granddaughter Olivia Rainville of Rowley. She also leaves her sisters, Karen Flynn and husband Eric Rolfe of Arlington, Judith Beaulieu and husband Roger of Salem, Ruth Cooney- Flynn of Lynnfield, and Beth Comeau and husband Joe of Lynn. She was predeceased by her siblings, Margaret (Peggy) Fraser and Michael Flynn.
There will be no services at this time. Friends and relatives are invited to a Celebration of Her Life event at The Sylvan Street Grille located at 12 Sylvan Street, Peabody, MA on Sunday (July 9th) from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
