Obituary

Bob passed away, June 24,2023. He was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen, his son Scott Tobias, his daughter in law Meaghan and his daughter Heidi Wong and his son in law Steven Wong. Bob will be missed by his three grandchildren, Nadia Tobias (16), Nina Tobias (11), and Nicholas Wong(11). He is also survived by his brother John and sister in law Joyce Tobias of Falmouth MA.

Born on January 11, 1942, in Boston, Massachusetts, Bob was the son of Paul Tobias and Mary (O'Rourke) Tobias. He attended Lexington High School, graduating in 1960, and later pursued his education at Northeastern University in Boston.

Bob served his country with dedication and honor in the Naval Air Reserves, stationed in Jacksonville, FL, and Cuba. Following his military service, he embarked on a successful career, beginning at MIT Physics Labs and later joining Argonne National Laboratory in Chicago. Returning to Boston, he shifted his focus to the burgeoning computer industry, working with several early startups that laid the foundation for today's leading technology companies. The majority of his career was spent at Digital Equipment, where he made significant contributions. After retiring, he continued his passion for innovation by working with BBN Technology, exploring cutting-edge advancements. Eventually, he decided to unplug from the technology sector and embrace a fulfilling retirement.

Retirement did not slow Bob down; in fact, he embraced it as an opportunity to give back to the community. He actively participated in Habitat for Humanity of Merrimack Valley and Greater Lowell, lending his skills to build houses and provide homes for those in need. At the Robb Center for Seniors in Andover, he became known as the man who could fix anything, serving as a powerhouse in the fix-it shop. Bob's passion for cycling took him on leisurely rides around Cape Cod and Andover, where he found joy in the simple pleasures of life.

When reflecting on his life's accomplishments, Bob's most significant source of pride was his loving marriage to his best friend, Kathleen Reed. Their beautiful journey together recently celebrated its 56th wedding anniversary in June. Bob was a devoted husband who cherished the deep bond they shared. His love extended to their children, Scott Tobias and Heidi Wong, and their spouses, Meaghan and Steven. Bob found immense joy in spending time with his grandchildren, Nadia Tobias, Nina Tobias, and Nicholas Wong, sharing his wisdom and interests with them.

Bob had a natural knack for gardening and cultivated a bountiful garden that nourished not only his family but the entire neighborhood. He became known as "Mr. T" to the local children, who were always curious about his latest gardening and shell collecting endeavors.
