Daniel L. Sweeting (ret. BFD), age 77, died June 22, 2023 at his home under the care of his family and hospice. He was the loving husband of Louise (Cohen) Sweeting for 57 years. Dan was born and raised in Brockton, a son of the late Daniel and Jannie Mae (Gibbs) Sweeting and remained a lifelong resident of the the city.
A 1964 graduate of Brockton High School, Dan served in the US Army during the Vietnam War and was discharged as a SP5. He served on the Brockton Fire Department for many years and was a dry wall installer. Dan earned his associate degree from Massasoit Community College.
Dan loved music and singing and was a member of the Cavaliers band. He enjoyed fishing, watching the Celtics and most importantly spending time with his grandchildren. He will be remembered for his mischievous and adventurous nature.
Dan was the cherished father of Scott and Daniel Sweeting, Jr. both of Brockton; Enid Sweeting Louis and her husband George of Bridgewater; Andrea Cohen of Brockton and the late Derrek Sweeting. He was the grandfather of Jerome, Devin, Tavon, Tyler and Justin Sweeting; Robert, Michael and Ava May Louis; James Harrison and Jayson Angelo. He was the great grandfather of Janiyah Sweeting. Dan was the brother of Grace Olive Boyer of Fitchburg, MA; Shirley Magee, wife of the late Jarvis “Jake” of Brockton; Kathryn Sweeting Lugo, wife of Joseph Lugo of Terryville, CT and the late Margaret Shanks, wife of Richard Shanks. He also leaves many close nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held Monday June 26, 2023 from 4-7pm at the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. Brockton. Funeral service in the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 am. Burial will be at a later date.
