Obituary

Walters, Alan Stanley age 82, of Naples, FL and formerly of Kennebunkport, ME and Wellesley, MA, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on June 17, 2023. He was born to the late David Meyer and Rebecca (Keyser) Walters in Baltimore, MD. Alan graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a BA in Economics and later earned his MBA at the Harvard Business School where he was a Baker Scholar.

Alan met his future wife Jo Ann on a blind date in San Francisco while posted in Long Beach, CA serving in the Navy, having completed Navy officer’s training school and serving as a Supply Officer on a destroyer in Southeast Asia. Alan and Jo Ann were happily married for 57 years. They lived in Europe for 12 years including stints working in Germany, England, and Belgium before settling in Wellesley, MA with their family. Following a successful career in business, Alan and his wife retired to Kennebunkport and Naples where Alan pursued his passion of playing and teaching bridge all over the world earning Diamond Life Master status, and faithfully cheered on his beloved Baltimore Orioles through their ups and mostly downs.

Alan’s love of travel brought him to over 60 countries including crossing the Atlantic on the QE2, flying to Europe on the Concorde, riding the rails on the Orient Express, celebrating a milestone birthday of Jo Ann’s on a sailboat in the Galapagos, soaring over the temples of Bagan, Myanmar in a hot air balloon, and many more once in a lifetime experiences.

In addition to his wife Jo Ann, Alan is survived by his two children, Scott and his wife Kristin of Wayland, MA and Tracy of Weston, MA. Alan is also survived by his two grandchildren William and Theodore of Wayland and his brother Harvey and his wife Molly Kealy of Mariaville, ME.

Services are private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider donating to their favorite charity in Alan’s name.
