Cheryl Marie (Sanford) Tucker passed away Friday June 9, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 27, 1958, in Boston Massachusetts, she was the third child and only girl born to the late William Sanford and the late Maggie L. Sanford.
Cheryl grew up in the Boston area where she attended Jeremiah E. Burke High School. During her time at the Burke, she became a mother to Tamyka and a couple of years later Shaneta. Cheryl loved taking care of others. She started working for Mattapan Chronic Disease Hospital as a CNA and then she went on to work at the Walter E. Fernald State School, caring for people with developmental disabilities. During her tenure at Fernald State School, she met the love of her life, Lonnie L. Tucker, who would later become her husband.
Being raised as a Jehovah's Witness, Cheryl always had in her heart a love for the Bible. She would go on to study the Bible for many years. She decided to make the truth her own and became a dedicated and baptized servant of Jehovah alongside her husband Lonnie on April 16, 2016. Cheryl was a beloved member of the Fairhaven Congregation where she forged many cherished friendships. On November 1, 2020, Cheryl achieved her most precious goal when she became a full-time minister following in the footsteps of her beloved mother Maggie.
Cheryl loved many things; she loved to sew and cook. She also was a lover of music and she would just dance whenever her songs would come on, but what Cheryl loved most of all spending time with her family. She was a devoted wife to Lonnie, a loving mother to her daughters Tamyka and Shaneta, and a proud grandmother to Dominique, Malakai and Jordan. Cheryl was the type of person who was loved by so many because that is what she exuded. Her nephews and nieces adored her.
During her short illness Cheryl remained faithful to Jehovah and a constant source of encouragement to all of her family and friends.
Cheryl will be dearly missed. She leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Lonnie L. Tucker; her daughters, Tamyka T. Sanford and Shaneta A. Sanford; her brothers, Anthony Sanford and his wife Bernice and Jerold Sanford and his wife Brenda; her grandchildren, Dominique J. Sanford and his wife Tatyana, Malakai C. Sanford and Jordan M. Farmer; and a host of nephews, nieces, and loving family and friends.
Her Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 2 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 742 County St., New Bedford. For online guestbook, visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
