CHICOPEE – Laura M. (Marion) Chimelis, 63, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, June 18, 2023. She passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Oak Park, Illinois on September 18, 1959 a beloved daughter of Evangeline M. (Adams) Marion of and the late Herbert Marion. She was raised in the Chicago area, graduated from Our Lady Help of Christians Elementary School and Kelvyn Park High School, both in Chicago. She furthered her education and received a Bachelor’s Degree in History from MacMurray College in Jacksonville, IL and a Nursing Degree from the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO. She was employed as a Registered Nurse in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Baystate Medical Center. She was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. During her leisure time, she enjoyed traveling. Her greatest joy was being devoted to her family, nursing and children. All who knew her were touched by her generous, forgiving nature. She leaves her beloved husband and best friend, Ronald Chimelis. They were married on November 11, 2000 in Chicopee and were blessed with over 22 years of happiness together. She also leaves her loving son, Mohammad Jafar Kazemi and his wife, Ashley Fredrickson; her loving daughter, Ashley Chimelis and her partner, Lea Hohenlohe; her four cherished grandchildren, Ayden J. Kazemi, Kaleb S. Kazemi, Mila C. Kazemi and Brooke A. Kazemi; her beloved mother, Evangeline M. “Eve” Marion and her partner, Robert Saltzman; her cherished foster mother, Iona Bormet; her seven dear brothers and sisters, Linda Marion, Sandy Eggert and her husband, Michael, Carol Zygadlo and her husband, Thomas, Neil Marion and his wife, Evelyn, Norman Marion and Sandra Moore, Lester Marion and Penny Brinkman and her husband, Edward; her two dear sisters in law, Evelyn Leeper and her husband, Mark, and Karen Marion; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. Her family will receive friends on Friday, June 23, 2023 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2023 beginning at the funeral home at 9 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her Burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
