SPRINGFIELD – James G. Gagne, 75, of the Sixteen Acres section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, June 15, 2023. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Holyoke on August 21, 1947, a beloved son of the late Wilfred J. and Lucy J. (LaRocque) Gagne. He was raised on South Summer Street in Holyoke and graduated from Precious Blood High School. He received his Associate's Degree from Springfield Technical Community College and his Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from Curry College in Milton. He moved to Springfield in 1970 where he served his community as a Police Officer for 34 years with the Springfield Police Department and retired in 2008 with Badge No. 5. He served in the Army National Guard in Springfield. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Police Officers, a former member of the Springfield Lodge of Elks and enjoyed getting together for the monthly "Bachelor Dinner" with his fellow officers at the John Boyle O'Reilly Club in Springfield. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Springfield. Jimmy was meticulous about his lawn, loved being at the shore in Rhode Island, having a good campfire, playing cards with his family and friends and playing Words with Friends with his best buddy, Linda. Jimmy most especially will be remembered for remote learning and being the best "Boppa" to his cherished grandchildren. He leaves his beloved wife and sweetheart, Kathleen M. "Kitty" (Martin) Gagne. They were married on November 7, 1981 at Sacred Heart Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 41 years of happiness together. He also leaves his four loving children, Christopher M. Gagne and his partner, Breanna Cimino, of Springfield, Kristin E. Dicioccio and her husband, Michael, of Feeding Hills, Kerry R. Rubio and her husband, David, of Agawam and Ashley J.A. Gagne-Clark and her husband, Max Clark, of Enfield, CT; his seven cherished grandchildren, Crixus J. Gagne, Marley J. Gagne, Iuliana E. Gagne, Alicia N. Dicioccio, twins: Jayce J. Rubio and Jayden A. Rubio and Julius T. Clark; his dear sister, Nancy Houle and her husband, Robert, of Belchertown; his dear brother in law, James Martin and his wife, Kim; his dear sister in law, Helene Devine and her husband, Kevin; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his three dear sisters, Lorraine Murphy, Elaine Carmody and Anita Martel. His family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107. His Funeral will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2023 beginning at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
