WORCESTER__Anna Grala, 85, passed away on June 15 after being surrounded by her family for her peaceful last days. She is predeceased by her beloved husband Kazimierz who died in 1983.
Anna leaves two children, daughter Eva Black and her husband Stephen, and son Darius and his wife Karen. She leaves four grandsons who were the pride of her life: Stevie, Cas, Eddy, and Kaz. She also leaves her sister Zenobia Zakowiecka in Poland and many nieces and nephews. One of her dearest nephews, Michal Filewicz passed away in 2018. She missed him very much.
Anna was educated in Poland where she worked as a school teacher. She immigrated to the United States in 1973 with her husband and children and spent most of her years living and working in Worcester. She particularly enjoyed her job in the Holy Cross cafeteria where she loved chatting and watching The Price Is Right with the students.
Anna also leaves several wonderful friends with whom she enjoyed long phone conversations, many lunches, casino trips and exercise classes at the Worcester Senior Center. She loved her church, Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish, where she was a member of the Women’s Guild and spent countless hours rolling pierogis for the fall festival and singing in the choir.
Anna’s family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of 3 South at UMass Memorial Center and the Rose Monahan Hospice Home. They are exceptionally dedicated professionals who treated her with compassion and dignity.
The funeral will be held on Monday June 19 from HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward Street, with a Mass at 10:30 A.M. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward Street. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours in the funeral home are Sunday June 18 from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M.
