David J. Cronin, Sr.

TEWKSBURY: David J. Cronin, Sr. age 81, a resident of Tewksbury for over 50 years, passed away suddenly at the Lowell General Hospital Saints Campus on Wednesday, June 7, 2023.
He was the beloved husband of Claire A. (Downey) Cronin, who passed away on January 18th of this year.
Born in Boston on April 10, 1942, he was one of eleven children of the late James Cronin and the late Ann (Wyllie) Cronin.
Dave was raised in the Dorchester area of Boston and graduated from Mission Hill High School.
Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served until being honorably discharged on January 29, 1964. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the Marksmanship Badge for his active-duty service.
Dave worked for the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority for over 30 years until retiring in 1991. In the years following his career with the M.B.T.A., Dave worked for the New Balance Company in Lawrence until 2005.
He enjoyed being a member of the V.F.W. Post in Revere and the D.A.V., following local sports, taking cruises with his late wife, and vacationing with his family on Lake Winnipesaukee.
Dave is survived by his two children, Karen M. Cronin and David J. Cronin, Jr. and his wife Mihaela, all of Tewksbury: his sister, Ann Bennett and her husband Richard, of Dorchester. He leaves many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
He was predeceased by ten siblings.
Calling hours are Tuesday, June 20th, from 5-7 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee Street, Tewksbury, immediately followed by a prayer service to be held at the funeral home. Following cremation, Dave will be laid to rest at St. Mary Cemetery, 90 River Road, Tewksbury at a date and time to be announced by his family.
