LEICESTER/CHERRY VALLEY; Ronald W. Martin, Sr., 79, of the Cherry Valley section of Leicester, died Wednesday June 14 at UMASS Hospital Lake Ave. in Worcester.
He was the loving husband of Arline J. (Loranger) Martin who died in 2004. He leaves two sons, Ronald W. Martin, Jr. and his fiancé, Mary Kirk of Cherry Valley, Robert M. Martin and his partner, Susan M. Zuscak of Spencer, a sister, Mary Ann Houston of Spencer and a niece and a nephew.
Born in Worcester, he was the son of Brunnie & Mary (Klosek) Martin. Mr. Martin worked as a painter in the school department for the City of Worcester for 12 years. He previously worked at the former Smith Valve Co. in Westboro for 30 years. He was a graduate of St. John's High School when it was in Worcester.
He was a member of St. Pius X Church in Leicester. He enjoyed hunting and fishing trips and vacations with their good friends, Warren and Sheila Barter and Ray and Jay McDuffie. He was also an avid fan of the Red Sox as well as the Patriots. He loved his scratch tickets. He was also affectionately known by his family as "Poppie".
The funeral will be held Saturday, June 17 from the MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St., Leicester, with a
Mass at 10 A.M. in St. Pius X Church, 1161 Main St., Leicester. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Leicester. Calling hours are from 5-7 P.M. Friday in the funeral home.
