Obituary


Old Orchard Beach - Duane (Duey) Leslie Daley, age 76, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2023 at his home after a 3 year battle with cancer with family and friends by his side.
He was born August 7, 1946 to Donald and Thelma Daley.
After graduating from St Johnsbury Trade School, he joined the US Army and was stationed in France, Germany and Fort Hood TX.
On Christmas Eve 1965 (while on weekend pass) he married his high school sweetheart Linda McGennis and they were married for 57 years.
He worked in the railroad industry for 38 years as brakeman, conductor and later as an engineer for CP, CN, Amtrak Vermonter and Downeaster out of Portland ME and numerous other railroads. He was the first engineer to retire from Amtrak’s Downeaster.
Duey enjoyed going to hunting camp in Bloomfield VT with his father and family as well as going to Oxford Casino.
He spent his summers working for OOB Parking Enforcement and later as parking attendant for the American Legion. He was active in the American Legion Post 57 and was Bingo Officer. He was loved by the bingo players and fellow Legionnaires.
He was predeceased by his father Donald Daley and mother Thelma (Desrosiers) Daley and brother Michael. As well as father-in-law Robert McGennis and mother-in-law Arlene (Nutter) McGennis, brothers-in-law Thomas Shappy, Richard Hall, sister-in-law Mildred (McGennis) Joslin, niece Christine Joslin and his 2 fur babies Oliver and Tyson.
He is survived by his loving wife Linda (McGennis) Daley and his loving children Kimberly Archuleta and husband Steven of San Diego, Bethany Daley and significant other Jon Joseph of Ludlow Ma, two grandchildren - Kali (Gale) Piazza and husband Jesse, Nicolas Gale of Woodville NH and three great grandchildren - Kaylanii, Maddox and Brayden of San Diego.
Siblings Nancy Bedard and husband Douglas of FL, Donna and husband Earl of GA and Judith Daley of PA. As well as sisters-in-law Jean Vaughn and Gloria Hall of AZ, Penny Densmore and friend Yvie of VT, and brother-in-law Roger Joslin of VT and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday August 16th from 2 to 4pm at the American Legion Post 57 14 Memorial Street OOB, followed by a family celebration at his home.
Burial will be at a later date in Bloomfield VT.
