Obituary

PORTLAND - Anne M. Jorgensen, age 77, passed away peacefully at home on June 9th, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Buffalo, NY, on February 27, 1946, the third of seven children to Harold & Jane Heckman, and grew up in Buffalo and then Eden, NY. After graduating from Immaculata Academy in Hamburg, NY, she attended college at The College of New Rochelle in New Rochelle, NY, followed by D'Youville College, in Buffalo, NY, where she earned a bachelor's degree in Sociology. Shortly after graduating D’Youville, Anne married Richard “Dick” L. Jorgensen, who was completing his dental degree at the University of Buffalo School of Dental Medicine. She worked as a social worker for several years before she and Dick started their family. In 1978, they moved to Norwich, NY, and she devoted her time to raising their three children. She also worked for many years as a teacher assistant in the Norwich City School system, where everyone knew her as a kind soul who was always willing to help others, especially the children.
Anne was a kind, easygoing woman with a gentle nature, who was thoughtful, intelligent, and quick to forgive others. Her smile lit up the room and brightened the lives of all who met her, and she will be greatly missed.
She is predeceased by her sister, Grace, who died in infancy. She is survived by her husband, Dick Jorgensen; her children: Karen Jorgensen, of Santa Barbara, CA, Kurt Jorgensen, of Windham, ME, and Krista Jorgensen, of Wilmington, NC, as well as her siblings: Mary Heckman Swartzbaugh, Barbara Heckman Simme, Jack Heckman, Mark Heckmann, and Sue Heckman. She will be especially missed by her beloved grandsons, Finn & Liam Jorgensen, of Windham, ME, who were very close with their “Bacca Grandma.”
A Celebration of Life will be hosted by the Heckman-Jorgensen family in the summer of 2024. Her ashes will be laid to rest at Cedar Brook Burial Ground in Limington, ME.
Anne never wanted to be the center of attention, so her services will be private for immediate family members only. Online condolence messages can be submitted at www.MaineFuneral.com
In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to honor Anne are invited to make a donation in her name to the Dempsey Center, PO Box 277, Auburn, ME 04212, for their tremendous support during Anne’s cancer treatment, or to The Episcopal Church of Saint Mary, 43 Foreside Rd, Falmouth, ME 04105.
“Don't take for granted the love this life gives you
When you get where you're going turn right back around
And help the next one in line
Always stay humble and kind”
