Obituary

Frederick R. Munson, age 69 of Brockton, died unexpectedly on June 1, 2023. Fred was the loving husband of Crystal T. Munson. Born, raised and educated in Spokane, WA, Fred was the son of late Marshall and Helen Munson. Following high school, he enlisted in the Navy and served during Vietnam on the USS Raleigh where he toured in Europe and the Mediterranean Sea. During his 8 years of active service, he served as clerk, barber and store manager. He also provided entertainment to his shipmates by playing his guitar and singing country music.

For over 30 years, Fred was employed at Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics Company in Bristol, RI. When the company transferred to Mexico during the Clinton years due to NAFTA, Fred went on to receive his automotive and insurance licenses in MA and RI. While Fred enjoyed traveling to meet new clients, he would often crack jokes about the poor road conditions and crazy drivers.

Fred and Crystal exchanged vows in the Fall of 2013 at a private ceremony at The Community of Christ Church in Onset, MA. During the ceremony Fred surprised everyone and sang “Lady” and “She Believes in Me” by Kenney Rogers to his new bride. They honeymooned in Nantucket and returned for many anniversary trips. Together Fred and Crystal loved to travel to numerous states. Whenever Fred started to complain about the potholes, Crystal diverted the conversation by saying “the sky is blue” and this would make Fred laugh. Fred’s favorite hobby included taking day trips in his Corvette with his wife. A day trip in the Corvette was not complete without a stop at a Dunkin Donuts and somewhere for lunch. Fred enjoyed restaurants, diners, pubs, hot dog stands and anywhere that sold lobsters. Fred often dined at Good Days in West Bridgewater, The Cove in Fall River and Amaral’s in Warren, RI.

Fred’s love for Corvettes goes back to the late 1970’s when he joined the Tri-Boro Corvette Club. Through the years Fred held many positions at Tri-Boro Corvette Club. Shortly after he purchased his first Corvette, a 74 Stingray. Fred could be found at many local car shows and club events including Bass Pro, Back to the Beach, Vettes to Vets and Mt. Melee. Here Fred could be found talking politics with friends and listening to “oldies” music.

Fred also enjoyed doing yard work, watching the Patriots and Red Sox, auto racing, attending and watching Barrett-Jackson auctions, cruising with the club, visiting with the neighbors and staying updated with the local politics.

Fred is survived by his wife Crystal, Crystal’s daughter Danielle, Danielle’s partner Joseph Benjamino and their daughter Eleanor Benjamino, Crystal’s daughter Brittney Scipione, Fred’s brother Kenneth Munson and Fred’s late sister Lynne Munson.

Fred was a very kind man and lived mostly by these words: “Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.” (John Wesley)

Remember Fred by grabbing a cup of coffee, playing your favorite music, revving your engines, rolling the windows down, living, laughing and loving your family and friends. Save the wave!

A Celebration of Life service for Fred will be held on July 2, 2023 at 11 am at the Community of Christ Church, 339 Onset Avenue, East Wareham, MA. This white church is located up on the hill.

Please consider a donation in Fred’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or consider donating blood to the American Red Cross.

Private burial will be held at a later date.
