Dwight Drefus Jernigan, 79, of Enigma, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, died peacefully on Monday, June 12, 2023, at his home. His funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 16, 2023, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. John Falotico officiating. Graveside services will be held at Turner Church Cemetery in Enigma. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 16, 2023, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of the service.
Daniel Lowery, Michael Connell, Daulton McMillan, Dillon McMillan, Ryan Tucker, Ethan Tucker, Arron Jones and Anthony Barnes will serve as pallbearers.
Dwight was born December 17, 1943, in Ocilla. Mr. Jernigan was the son of the late Drefus and Dorothy Griffin Jernigan. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Dwane Carrol Jernigan. He graduated from Berrien County High School in 1961. He was raised in Enigma and he was a market manager and meat cutter for 46 years, retiring in 2008. Mr. Jernigan was a member of Enigma Baptist Church.
Dwight is survived by his faithful and loving wife of 60 years, Alice Barnes Jernigan of Enigma; four daughters and sons-in-law, Felicia (David) Jernigan Connell of Nashville, Melinda (Hal) Jernigan McMillan of Enigma, Carol Jernigan Vance of Enigma and Laine (Jody) Jernigan Tucker of Alapaha; twelve grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Dale (Jim) Sandlin and Donna (Benny) Barber.
