Constance "Connie" Ida Schatz passed away peacefully on June 9th of natural causes at age 100. Born in 1922, she was the daughter of Mary and Delphis Chasse of Woonsocket.
She married the late Elwood W. Schatz in 1942. After her husband returned from serving in WWII, they owned and operated two restaurants: first, the Knotty Pine and later, the Breezy Knoll both in North Smithfield. Connie also worked at Laramee's Transit Inc. in Woonsocket and in 1968 was sworn in as Deputy Clerk for the town of North Smithfield retiring in 1981. During her youth, Connie often appeared on stage in the Kiddie Review and later toured New England with her dance partner, Sonny Reith. Connie was an avid reader of novels, jigsaw puzzles, and enjoyed playing the video game Dr. Mario. She always carried on her love of dancing into her later life.
She is survived by her four children, Mary Ann Mann and the late Julian, Elwood W. Schatz Jr. and the late Teresa, Wendy Lopes, all of North Smithfield, and Kurt Schatz and wife Cheryl of Mapleville, as well as eight grandchildren, Jonathan Mann and wife Leanna of Brooklyn, NY, Joshua Schatz and partner Jill Page of Ashaway, Rhode Island, Kelly St. Jean and husband, Randy of Williamsburg, Virginia, Adam Schatz and wife, Laura of Mapleville, Rhode Island, Jesse Lopes and partner Kelly Buchanan of Warwick, Massachusetts, William Schatz of Woonsocket, Rhode Island, Jared Mann and wife Cindy of Providence, RI, Vanessa Lopes of Orlando, Florida in addition to 6 great-grandchildren.
Constance is also survived by her brother, Conrad Bibeault and wife, Eileen of Blackstone, Massachusetts, and a sister, Barbara Lanoue and her partner, Larry Wilson of Marco Island, Florida as well as many nieces and nephews.
Connie will always be remembered for her love of family, sense of humor and quick wit.
Interment will be private.
