Glenice M. Sheehan
Longtime Addiction Counselor & Advocate


TEWKSBURY: Glenice M. (Larson) Sheehan, age 95, a well known and respected member of the Tewksbury community, passed away at the Tewksbury Hospital on Friday, June 9, 2023.

She was the beloved wife of Daniel R. Sheehan, who passed away on April 1, 1977.

Born in Monson, Maine on March 14, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Frank A. Larson and the late Edith H. (Brown) Larson.

Glenice was raised in Monson and Dexter, Maine. She attended area schools and graduated from Fay Scott High School in Dexter, Maine.

After raising her children, she continued her education and earned a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Cambridge College.

She resided in Tewksbury for over forty years until moving to Ft. Lauderdale, FL and McKinney, TX. Glenice returned to her beloved Town of Tewksbury in 2022.

Glenice was employed at Tewksbury Hospital as the Chief Medical Technologist for over 25 years and after completing her counseling education was employed at Wang in Massachusetts and for Biodyne in Florida as an addiction counselor until her retirement. Her devotion and dedication to those suffering from addiction lead to the founding of the Glenice Sheehan House and 12 step program located on the campus of Tewksbury Hospital for over 20 years.

She is survived by her children, Glennis J. Mairs and her husband Maury, of Portland, Oregon, Daniel R. Sheehan, Jr., of Tewksbury, Catherine McCarthy, of Plano, TX, Nancy E. Maguire, of McKinney, TX, Timothy M. Sheehan, of Hudson, NH, and Teresa M. “Tracy” McCarthy, of McKinney, TX. She was the grandmother of twelve, including the late Daniel R. Sheehan, III and Jonathan P. Sheehan, and great grandmother of nine. Glenice was the sister of Gayanne Wintle and her husband Galen, of Dexter, ME and the late Anton W. Larson. She leaves many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Calling hours are Wednesday, June 14th, from 3 to 7 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee Street, Tewksbury. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 15th, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Tewksbury Cemetery, 172 East Street, Tewksbury.
