Thomas William Hopkinson Jr., a longtime resident of Medford, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2023. He was 83 years old.
Tom grew up in Somerville, MA. It is there that he met Claire, the love of his life, in their teenage years. He graduated from Malden Catholic High School in 1958. Tom and Claire married in 1961, enjoyed 62 years of marriage, and raised their family in Medford, MA. Tom worked in the electronics industry for much of his life. He was employed at Analog Devices Inc for close to 50 years where he held many positions, including Customer Service Manager, until his retirement in 2007. He reflected fondly on his time there and the many colleagues he worked with. Tom and Claire had a close extended family and many lifelong friends, some going back to early childhood, who they enjoyed spending time with. Every event, whether it be an evening together with couples, a shared vacation, or a major family event was full of laughter and love.
Tom brightened any occasion with his sharp, quick-witted humor and endless tales of memories he shared with his loved ones. Tom was always there for his family and never missed a graduation, birthday, or any other important moment, even if it meant he couldn’t watch the Patriots game. His family will always be grateful for everything he did and sacrificed to provide for them and make sure everyone was taken care of.
Tom enjoyed golfing and always looked forward to his and Claire’s trips to The Villages in Florida during the winter months so he could get out on the course. He also spent a lot of time reading and watching golf and football games.
Tom loved to spend time with his wife, children, and grandchildren at his lake house in Danforth, Maine, where there was always a project to be worked on or a breakfast to cook for his family. Time spent in Maine with Tom on boat rides, fishing trips, nature walks, or drives downtown was wholly cherished by his family and will be remembered fondly.
Tom valued his family above all, a value which has been passed on and deeply instilled in all his children and grandchildren. He especially cherished his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was their Papa. They were the joy of his life and he shared a unique and special relationship with each one of them.
Tom will be indescribably missed, but his legacy of love for his family will continue to live on.
