Obituary

Mrs. Judith Ann “Judy” (Goldstein) Lugus, a longtime resident of Andover and beloved wife of John Lugus, passed away at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington on Tuesday, June 6, 2023. She was 79 years old.

Judy was born in Hewlett, Long Island, New York on August 24, 1943, to Joseph and Rose (Canner) Goldstein.

After graduating from Temple University, Judy worked as a high school math teacher in the Philadelphia area. Later, she moved to Boston where she was a computer programmer at MIT among several other companies. After leaving the full-time work force to raise her family, Judy still managed to find time to use her skills in various ways – from assisting individuals with computer literacy to volunteering with several local charities. Most recently she was involved with Project Home Again and Uncommon Threads. In addition, she was an enthusiastic supporter of progressive causes and campaigns and volunteered in Andover Town elections. Judy was always busy – reading, doing the daily crossword puzzle, going to the gym, planning her next international trip, and recently, enjoying art classes.

Judy was a devoted mother, grandmother, wife, aunt, and friend. She was an exceptionally open and warm person who loved people and was loved by all who knew her. Her family and friends could always count on her unwavering support and humor.

Besides her beloved husband, John, Judy is survived by her loving children; Jesse and his wife Michelle (Li) of Acton and Emmy and her husband Michael Cohen of Highland Park, Illinois; brothers Mitchell and his wife Lois Goldstein of Indio, California and Leonard Goldstein of Long Island, New York; grandchildren Scout, Henry, Sidney, Daphne, and Caleb; and many generations of cousins, nieces, and nephews, including Keith, Karen, Kelly, Kimberly, Jane and Susie, and their families. Judy was also the sister-in-law of the late Carol Goldstein. It would be remiss not to mention the dear neighbors and friends with whom Judy shared close relationships throughout her life.

Memorial visitation will be held in the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 North Main Street, Andover on Saturday, June 17, 2023, from 2 - 4 PM. Interment will be privately held. Donations in Judy’s memory may be made to phama.org or uncommonthreads.org. For additional information, please visit www.burkemagliozzi.com.
