Obituary

Dennis Edward Burke, 81, of Chepachet, Rhode Island and Barnard, Vermont passed away suddenly on June 1, 2023, at the family home in Vermont.

Born on December 25, 1941 in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, he was the son of the late Mary Teresa Revnek and Edward Joseph Burke. He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty years, Therese (Martin) Burke, his brother Edward Joseph Burke and wife Beverly of Naples, Florida, and younger brother Brian Burke and wife Annette of Greenville, Rhode Island, his son Paul Burke and companion Keri Yuilli of Dayville, Connecticut, his daughter Susan O’Keefe and husband David of Glocester, Rhode island, and two grandchildren, Sean O’Keefe of Dayville, Connecticut and Zachary O’Keefe of Scituate, Rhode Island.

After graduating from LaSalle Academy in Providence and attending Providence College, Dennis worked in the marine industry for fifty years until his retirement in 2009 from Kellogg Marine Supply. During those years his knowledge of marine products, together with his experience, pragmatism and resourcefulness, concern for and loyalty to his customers (many who became lifelong friends) led to several awards including National Marine Salesman.

Dennis realized that a purpose-driven life does not end in retirement, so he redirected his skills from sales to woodworking, over the years gifting family and friends with items illustrative of his talent as an artisan.

How do we remember Denny? Intelligent, affable, trustworthy, dependable, compassionate, hardworking, quick-witted, a “good person”, a true friend, a good husband, father, and grandfather – the kind of guy you want in your trench- someone who never took himself too seriously, yet made our lives and that of so many others enjoyable.

The Burke family would like to express their gratitude to all who have shown such kindheartedness to us during this sad time: the assistance of the Barnard Fire Department on the day of his death and throughout the years will not be forgotten.

Denny lost his heart to Vermont, where, honoring his request, memorial services will be private.
