Mabel Kathryn Sawyer passed away peacefully on June 4, 2023, at the age of 80, surrounded by her family in Boston, Massachusetts.
She was born on January 6, 1943, in Brockton, MA to John and Katherine Bell. Mabel was a beloved wife of 48 years to Curtis Sawyer and a caring sister to her late sister, Nancy Stewart. She was a cherished mother to Beth Sawyer, John Sawyer, and his significant other Laurel Kennedy. She was a stepmother to David Sawyer, Ken Sawyer, Cheryl Sawyer, Karen Sawyer, and Dan Sawyer. Family was very important to her and she loved spending time with her 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Mabel was a kind and caring person who was a friend to all. She loved the meaningful connections she made and maintained with others. Mabel had a passion for gardening, travel, and volunteer work. She spent much of her free time tending to her garden and traveling the world with her husband. She also dedicated her time to volunteering and giving back to her community.
She was a devoted member of her church, where she met her husband in 1970 while teaching Sunday School. Her faith was an integral part of her life, and she found comfort and solace in her church community.
Mabel graduated from Brockton High School in 1960 and went on to earn education degrees from Eastern Nazarene College and Cambridge College. She retired in 2005 after 40 years as an elementary school teacher in Hanover, MA. Her impact on her students was immeasurable, and she will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.
Mabel was a very charitable person. Donations in her name can be made to Worldwide Heart to Heart to support the Children's Village in Honduras.
Her family has been touched by the outpouring of love and support by her friends and neighbors in the community. A visitation will be held Sunday, June 11 from 2:00-5:00 pm at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) in Whitman, MA. The Memorial Service will be held at the Community Covenant Church, 400 Pleasant Street in East Bridgewater, MA on Monday, June 12 at 10 am. Burial will follow in the Melrose Cemetery, Brockton.
