John Joseph O’Neill, age 82, of Forestdale, MA, died Friday, June 2, 2023 in Falmouth, MA surrounded by family and friends. Born on March 1, 1941 in Brockton, MA, he was the son of Katherine (Southworth) and C. Joseph O’Neill. In 1959, John married Joyce (Newell) O’Neill, his lifelong companion and friend. They were blessed with four children whom they raised in Brockton before he and Joyce later settled on Cape Cod.
John was a graduate of Brockton High School and worked in the manufacturing industry for many years. He took pride in his work as a Master Machinist and built a career on fabricating specialty machine parts.
John was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hike and snowmobile with his family and travel with his wife. He enjoyed restoring and refurbishing classic cars and was a member of both the Wheels of Time car club of Brockton and the Sham Rods car club of Sandwich. In addition, John spent a considerable amount of time in the Rangeley Lakes region of Maine as an active member of the Rangeley Lakes Snowmobile Club. He also held a membership at the Easton Rod and Gun Club.
John had an energetic and positive personality and was known always to put others first. He was loved by his children and grandchildren and will be remembered for his determination and resourcefulness.
In addition to his wife Joyce, John is survived by his children and their spouses: Kathleen and Brian Kelley, Colleen and Michael Greiner, Shawn and Debbie O’Neill, and Matthew and Kim O’Neill. He also leaves 12 grandchildren, 1 great grandson, his sister Ann Hunt-Lewis, 8 great grand-dogs and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton on Sunday, June 11, 2023 from 10am to 1pm, followed by a Funeral Service at 1pm. Per John’s wishes, donations may be made to the Cape Cod Healthcare Foundation, PO Box 370, Hyannis, MA 02601 or the Rangeley Lakes Snowmobile Club, PO Box 950, Rangeley, ME 04970 in lieu of flowers.
