Carlos Marquez Martinez, age 76 of Ventura, California, passed away on May 31, 2023, in Ventura, California. Carlos was born on October 22, 1946, in San Luis PotosÃ, Mexico, to Ramon Marquez and Augustina Saucedo. He will always be remembered for his love of his family, kindness, generosity, loyalty and a strong believer of the Lord Jesus Christ.
As a young man, Carlos excelled in the sport of futbol (soccer) as a goalkeeper. With his swift agility to read the ball, he was selected to play on the minor league squad for the Tampico Madero's. Later in life, Carlos married and decided to join his family in the United States. With the help of his father-in-law, Carlos came to the United States in 1971 and landed in beautiful Ventura, California. After working in different jobs across Ventura County, Carlos was hired as a sweeper at Vetco in Ventura, a company that supplied the oil field industry with parts. After some time sweeping the floors of Vetco, Carlos became curious with the machines and what the machines produced. A foreman noticed his curiosity, gave him a quick tutorial and instructed him to complete a task. When the foreman reviewed the results, he grabbed Carlos' broom, threw it across the shop and told him, "You are no sweeper, you are a machinist." After years of mastering his craft, Carlos became one of the most trusted machinists in the area. He was the go-to guy if you wanted something precise and on time. Carlos worked for Vetco until 1986 when the company closed. Afterward, he continued his career with Oil Country, which became Weatherford from which he retired. Although his work was his passion, his love was raising his children. Carlos could regularly be found practicing baseball with his kids, attending every single game without fail and always motivating his kids, "Animo mijo." Although Carlos raised his kids to be Dodgers fans, he always rooted for the Angels. He was also happy to see the Rams return to Los Angeles, and he never missed a game of his beloved Atletico San Luis soccer team.
He is survived by his wife, Carmen Martinez, his three children, Christina Martinez, Carlos Martinez, Jr. (Yvonne), Christobal Martinez (Araceli), all of Ventura and his stepchildren, Marvin Yoc of Los Angeles & Nancy Yoc of Ventura. Carlos is also survived by his grandchildren, Elizabeth M. Martinez, Carlos Martinez, III, Lorenzo D. Martinez, Sofia M. Martinez, Isaac Solorio and Abigail Solorio, all of Ventura.
