Karen Susan (Audette) Towers, 70, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 3, 2023 after a life spent loving her family and friends in the New Bedford, MA, area.
Karen was the only child of the late Margaret (Santos) Audette. She was the mother of Jennifer Towers and her husband, James Moore, of Spokane, WA, Matthew Towers and his wife, Laura Manzella, of Queens, NY, and Sarah Towers and her partner, Bryan Gwisc, of Cranston, RI. Karen loved having Jason Doherty and Matthew Doherty and their wives, Sunny and Katie, and their kids as part of her very loved extended family. She so loved being a grandmother to Rex and Kit Doherty and Wyatt Moore and the various children who were lucky enough to be part of her circle.
Karen's friends were like sisters, especially Carol, Esther, and Chris, and her relationship to the extended Doherty Clan made her very happy. Karen was also an aunt and godmother to Towers, Carroll, Pacheco, and Shepard nieces and nephews whom she adored.
Karen studied to be a nurse and taking care of patients and mentoring younger nurses were very important to her. She practiced both in New Bedford and in Waldo County, Maine, with high levels of responsibility and respect from other healthcare professionals.
Karen loved to crochet and was always working on another beautiful blanket or amazing stuffed animal for the child of someone she knew. She loved music and passed that love down to her kids. She loved her kids' pets, family trips, holidays, good books, pots of flowers in her yard, and trips to the casino. She is incredibly loved, liked, and missed and will be remembered by the so many lives that she touched both personally and professionally.
A public celebration of Karen's life will be held on Friday, June 9, 2023, from 4-7pm at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Her Funeral Service and burial in Riverside Cemetery will be held privately. For directions and guestbook, visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
