William F. Burke, 90, of Worcester, died peacefully on Wednesday, May 31st, in the Regal Care Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Home after a long illness. He is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, Edith M. (Tamulevich) of Worcester; two siblings, Ann Marie Doyle and her husband, Joe, and Joseph A. Burke and his wife, Annette; and 12 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Michael.
He was born in Worcester and was the beloved elder son of Luke L. Burke and Agnes Irene (Russell) Burke. Bill was a proud lifelong resident of Worcester except for a four-year tour of active duty with the U.S. Navy in Pensacola, Florida. He worked many years as a draftsman at Morgan Construction. Bill loved gardening, the outdoors, and he had a soft spot for dogs. He enjoyed nothing better than a walk in the park with one of his dogs. Bill was a die-hard Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. He loved to attend family events and will always be remembered for his easy-going friendly demeanor. He was a lifelong member of Our Lady of the Angels Church. Bill will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends. The family wishes to thank Ilda Johnston, a neighbor, who faithfully helped Bill and Edie during many years of declining health.
His funeral is Tuesday, June 6th with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Burial will be private. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. in the church until the start of the Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice in Bill’s name.
