John E. Brooks, 89, of East Bridgewater, MA passed away suddenly on May 26, 2023 at South Shore Hospital, Weymouth MA.
Born in Hyannis, MA, son of John E. and Isabel E. (Studley) Brooks, he was raised and educated in Rockland, MA, a graduate of Rockland High School class of 1951. He continued his education at Wentworth Institute of Technology and Northeastern University graduating with degrees in electrical engineering.
Upon retirement from the Foxboro Company after 35 + years, he went on to become an adjunct professor of mathematical studies, then taught TCP/IP networking and telecommunications, as part of the Verizon Next Step continuing education program at Massasoit Community College.
Growing up, John played the clarinet in school, an interest that continued into adulthood. He participated in company and community bands, becoming a member of the South Shore Concert Band. His interest in music and background in engineering led him to establish John Brooks Custom Recording. His most recent project was a discography of 50 plus albums entitled Sounds of the Circus, compiled by the late Richard Whitmarsh.
John was a longtime active member and supporter of Union Congregational Church in East Bridgewater, holding the position of treasurer for many years.
At the time of his passing, John, and his wife Jean A. (Mitchell) Brooks were planning to celebrate their 62nd wedding anniversary in June.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by his daughter Pamela J. Brooks and son Peter G. Brooks. He was predeceased by his son Philip J. Brooks. He is further survived by his sister Jane E. (Brooks) Bowles and sister-in-law Ruth Ann (Mitchell) Metcalf and their respective families.
Visitation hours will be held on Sunday, June 4th, from 2:00-4:00PM with a service to follow at 4:00 PM at Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Route 58 at rotary), Whitman, MA. Private burial will be held at a later date.
