Obituary

West Boylston – Phyllis M. (Bruso) Buchyn Roy, 90, a longtime resident of West Boylston, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 28, 2023 in the Dodge Park Rest Home.

Phyllis is survived by a son, Brian Buchyn and wife Shane of Lake Butler, FL; two daughters, Gail Buchyn of Worcester, Jo Anne Dion and her husband William of Putnam,CT and a step son Leonard Roy of Santa Fe, New Mexico; 4 grandchildren, Joseph Flagg, Matthew Buchyn, Michael Flagg and Phillip Buchyn; 5 great grandchildren, Jeffrey Flagg, Alexis Flagg, Clara Beth Buchyn, Everly Jo Buchyn and Dalton Buchyn and many cousins including Nancy Ginese, Denise Prunier, Susan Samaha and Andrea and Steve Letourneau.

She was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Gordon and Ida (Asselin) Bruso and is also predeceased by her first husband George Buchyn; her second husband, Adrien Roy and a son, Michael Buchyn.

Phyllis worked at the Worcester County Courthouse before going to work in the banking industry where she worked for many local banks retiring as a loan officer from People’s Bank. Phyllis also worked part time for the Town of West Boylston in the Assessor’s Office and volunteered at the West Boylston Senior Center.

She was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church and was an avid gardener. She took great enjoyment in crocheting and would often crochet prayer shawls and blankets for those in need.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, June 2, at 11 AM in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church 111 Worcester St. West Boylston. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Cemetery, West Boylston. A calling hour will be held beginning at 10 AM in Our Lady of Good Counsel prior to the funeral. Memorial contributions in memory of Phyllis may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association 309 Waverly Oaks Road Waltham, MA 02452.
