Richard F. Carle, 90, of Londonderry, NH died Saturday May 27, 2023. He was born on December 28, 1932 in Hinsdale, IL, a son of the late Dr. Nicholas and Eleanor (Hills) Carle. He had been a resident of Derry for 51 years before moving to Londonderry seven years ago.
He graduated from Swarthmore College, and after serving two years with the US Army in Japan, received a Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. He was an Assistant Professor at Boston University before joining Sanders Associates of Nashua, NH where he served as corporate manager of education and training and organizational planning. He finished as a consultant in that field.
He had an interest in the theater and had acting roles from college, summer stock to Armed Forces theater, and was a faculty advisor to the Boston University Drama Club. During the 1960’s he helped found non-profit organizations dedicated to civil rights and community development. He served as a trustee at Pinkerton Academy, was an avid reader and life-long Chicago Bears and Cubs fan. Family was the center of his life and always the most important to him.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Caryl (Slanetz) Carle of Londonderry, his daughter, Sarah Brennan and partner David of Fairview, UT, two grandsons, Jeffery Brennan and wife Hazuki, and Andrew Brennan, his sister, Marilyn Carle of Hinsdale, IL, and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Norma Slanetz of Keene, NH, and Lyn Slanetz of Concrete, WA. He was predeceased by his son, Andrew M. Carle.
Following cremation, there will be a gathering of family to honor his life. Memorial donations may be made to the Community Caregivers of Greater Derry, 6 W. Broadway, Unit 6, Derry, NH 03038. The Peabody Funeral Homes of Derry and Londonderry are assisting the family with arrangements.
