Mrs. Nancy A. (Dyer) Colby, a resident of Medford and East Wakefield, New Hampshire, and beloved wife of the late Walter D. Colby, Sr., passed away at her son’s home in Cambridge on Saturday morning, May 27, 2023. She was 85 years old.
Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on January 30, 1938, she was the beloved daughter of the late Ralph P. and Leola M. (Sanderson) Dyer.
Raised in Somerville, she graduated from the Somerville High School in 1956. Nancy and her beloved husband, Walter, raised their 5 children in Medford and East Wakefield, New Hampshire, where they spent over a half century together, building a magical place they called “Camp”. Nancy’s warmth allowed countless friends and family to make precious memories there. Nancy loved cards, books, knitting, good conversation and a good joke. Most of all, she loved people. Her empathy and friendliness seemed boundless. Nancy was a friend to all that knew her; she will be dearly missed by so many.
Nancy is survived by her loving children; David Colby and his wife Kathy of Medford, Alan Colby and his partner Michelle Brown of Cambridge, Kristin Colby of Salem, Walter Colby, Jr. and his wife Gina of Amherst, New Hampshire and Sarah Colby and her husband Phillip Chandler of Cambridge. She was Mimi to her cherished grandchildren; Jessica Colby, Jonathan Colby, Joshua Colby, Corey Burrell, Nathan Colby, Madison Colby, Paige Colby, Elliot Colby, Lorelei Chandler, Meredith Chandler and Henry Chandler, great-grandchildren, Luke Colby, Joseph Colby and Brooklyn Colby and many loving nieces and nephews. Nancy was also the sister of the late Ralph Dyer, Jr., Raymond Dyer and Jane (Dyer) Sullivan.
Her funeral service will be celebrated in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford on Monday, June 5, 2023, at 10 AM, Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, June 4, 2023, from 2 to 6 PM. Interment will be held in the Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody.
