Marjorie E. Dunn (Lynch) passed away peacefully on May 18, 2023 at Orchard Cove in Canton. She was born on February 23, 1931 to Gladys (Fraser) and John Lynch.
Marjorie was raised in Malden and later graduated from the Massachusetts General Hospital School of nursing, which led to a fulfilling career as a Registered Nurse.
She was the beloved wife of the late John F. “Jack” Dunn. They were married just shy of 65 years at the time of his passing in 2017. Together they raised 5 children in Sharon Ma before retiring to the Village at Willow Crossing in Mansfield.
Alongside her husband, Marjorie loved to travel. She was a lifelong learner who loved to read, study culture and share tales of her adventures with family and friends. While her passion for knowledge took her all over the world, her favorite days were spent at her summer home in East Barnard, Vermont where she passed her time observing her pond for birds and animals, playing cards with friends, cooking for community gatherings in the village and enjoying evening dinners out with family.
Marjorie loved to host a good party and never missed a chance to celebrate. While birthdays and holidays were never missed, tea parties were her specialty. Whatever the occasion she made sure everybody was invited and everybody was included - she kept a thoughtfully stocked gift closet for any last-minute attendees who may pop in! Every stranger who came into Marjorie’s house left as a friend.
Marjorie was always giving. In addition to the winter Grammy Hats she made for her grandchildren and all of their friends, she was regularly knitting beautiful sweaters that are still worn as a badge of honor by many friends, neighbors and family members. In her later years, it was rare to see Marjorie without her knitting tote by her side. Marjorie’s baked goods were equally legendary and if you were lucky enough to get a tray of blondies or a chocolate cake with sprinkles, you knew it!
Marjorie’s giving nature extended well beyond her family and deep into her community. She was recognized as a special volunteer by Sturdy Hospital for her knitted donations, was instrumental in establishing the Mansfield Ambulance Fund which helped to purchase two new ambulances for the town of Mansfield, and she was an active member of the First Congregational Church in Sharon. Marjorie also dedicated much of her time to the Kendall Whaling Museum in Sharon for many years and took great pride in her contributions to the preservation of local whaling history.
Marjorie was a spirited matriarch and lived every moment of this life to the fullest. She was smart, interesting, fun and will be sorely missed by many. In her passing, Marjorie leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness and dedication to her family, friends and community. Her unwavering support and encouragement touched the lives of many and her memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
She is survived by her loving family: her children, Douglas W Dunn and his wife Karen of Mansfield, J Scott Dunn and his wife Celeste Bernardo-Dunn of Sharon, Alan Fraser Dunn of Norton, Craig P Dunn and his wife Kathy of Charlottesville VA, and Marjorie Jeanne McCluskey and her husband Joseph of New Boston, NH. She was the sister of the late Douglas Lynch and is survived by eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and extended family members who will cherish her memory.
All are respectfully invited to attend a memorial service at the First Congregational Church of Sharon at 29 North Main Street, Sharon Ma on Saturday, June 17th at 11:00 am.
Visiting hours are omitted and burial is private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Marjorie can be made to Mansfield Ambulance Fund at 10 Plymouth St, Mansfield Ma 02048.
