CHICOPEE – W. Kaween Fernando, 36, of the Willimansett section of Chicopee, was Called Home on Thursday, May 25, 2023. He passed into Eternal Life at his home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka on October 17, 1986, the beloved son of Welisarage M. and Deepthi (Mendis) Fernando. He immigrated to the United States with his family at the age of three, lived in Brooklyn and Long Island, New York and settled in Chicopee in 1998 where he lived the remainder of his life. He graduated from Chicopee High School and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from Northeastern University in Boston. He was a communicant of Saint Anthony of Padua Church in Chicopee. He enjoyed cooking, especially his favorite unique cuisine. Kaween also enjoyed trivia, traveling to wineries and vineyards and taking trips to the beach with his beloved fiancée. He was dedicated to his community and involved in local politics. Most of all, he was a loyal son, brother, fiancé and friend. He loved and cared for his family and friends with endless devotion. In addition to his parents, he leaves his loving fiancée, Dr. Mahawa Sam of Worcester; his devoted sisters, Kawinthi N. Fernando and her husband, Jeffrey Busha, of Haverhill, Malinthi L. Fernando of Worcester and Dinithi C. Fernando of Chicopee; his dear aunt, Swineetha Fernando and her husband, Ananda Amarasinghe, and their family, of Staten Island, NY; his two dear uncles, Ranjan Mendis and his wife, Sharmila Tissera, and their family, of Chicopee and Rohan Mendis and his wife, Maureen Mendis, and their family, of Floral Park, NY; and his many aunts, uncles, cousins, numerous friends and extended family members in the United States, Sri Lanka and abroad. His Funeral will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2023 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Saint Anthony of Padua Church, 56 Saint Anthony Street, Chicopee, MA 01013. His Burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
