Mary Rose Campbell, age 88, of Wayland passed away on May 8, 2023. Born in Brighton, MA, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Mary E. (Doherty) Campbell. Mary Rose was raised and educated in Newton, MA, and was a graduate of Newton High School. She attended Regis College and obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition in 1956.
At Regis Mary Rose was a student leader, and then a loyal supporter of the College throughout her life. In her senior yearbook she was described as a “moving melody of grace and charm” and “the sincerest VP, always working for Regis.” She competed on the basketball, tennis, and golf teams, and was captain of the basketball team. After graduation, her dedication to her alma mater remained—she held several leadership and volunteer roles including class officer, class agent, President of the Alumni Association, and was a member of the Board of Trustees. She was the recipient of the Alumni Association Loyalty Award in 2000 for her distinguished service to Regis College, and in 2011 she was inducted into the Regis College Athletics Hall of Fame.
Mary Rose's career as a registered dietitian took many successful paths. She began as a food service supervisor at the University of Rhode Island, and transitioned to hospital work as a dietitian at New England Deaconess hospital. She joined the Seiler food service corporation in 1962, holding leadership positions at Nashoba Hospital, and then in Corporation Dietary Management with posts in Maine and Pennsylvania in addition to her extensive time in Massachusetts. She retired as Vice President at Seiler/Sodexho in 1992. During her career she also dedicated extensive time to her profession through service on the boards of the Massachusetts Dietetic Association, the New England Hospital Assembly, the Massachusetts Food Service Educational Council, Massachusetts Health Council, and the Massachusetts Restaurant Association. She was listed as noteworthy Health Care Executive by Marquis Who’s Who.
In her spare time, Mary Rose enjoyed skiing, water sports, watching tennis, and cheering for the Boston sports teams. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her siblings, their families, friends, and her extended families. She always made a point to take time to be a part of so many important milestones in so many lives.
Mary Rose was the dear sister of the late Edward Campbell, James Campbell, William Campbell and Neil Campbell. She is survived by her sister Margaret (Campbell) Kearney of West Barnstable, MA.
She was the beloved aunt of many nieces and nephews, and a dear member of all the extended families she cherished throughout her life.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Mary Immaculate of Lourdes Church, 270 Elliot St. Newton, on Saturday, June 3 at 11:30 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Needham.
