CHICOPEE – Susan M. (Turgeon) Kurpaska, 59, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, May 23, 2023. She passed into Eternal Life at her mother Jeannine’s home surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Springfield on December 7, 1963, the beloved daughter of Jeannine B. (Plouffe) Turgeon of Chicopee and the late Donald J.J. Turgeon who was Called Home on July 14, 2022. She was raised in the Aldenville section of Chicopee, graduated from Saint Joan of Arc School and Holyoke Catholic High School and was a lifelong resident of the city. She received her Associate’s Degree from Holyoke Community College and a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Westfield State College. She was a longtime and dedicated second and third grade teacher at Saint Joan of Arc School and had previously taught at the former Saint George School, both in Chicopee. She received the Grinspoon Excellence in Teaching Award in Western Massachusetts and the Pope Pius X Award from the Diocese of Springfield. She was a devoted communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee where she served her parish as a Eucharistic Minister, a Confraternity of Christian Doctrine Instructor for the First Communion Class and the Assistant Confirmation Director. She leaves her beloved husband and best friend, Lawrence Kurpaska. They were married on October 29, 1988 at Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 34 years of happiness. She also leaves her two loving children, Katelyn M. Krajewski and her husband, Adam, of Enfield, CT and Joseph M. Kurpaska of Chicopee; her cherished granddaughter, Adalyn Krajewski and her grandson to be who will be born this August; her two dear sisters and her dear brother, Catherine A.M. Grenier and her husband, Christopher, Michelle L.M. Cyran and her husband, Anthony, and Donald J.J. Turgeon, Jr. and his wife, Robin, all of Chicopee; her sister in law, Michaeline Gureckis and her husband, Glen, of Ludlow; her dear aunt, Joanne Wyman and her husband, John, of Hendersonville, NV; her two goddaughters, Jill Jarry and Lillyann Jarry; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and numerous friends. Her Funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her Burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
