Katherine E. (Tomporis) Knowlton, 98, of Worcester died Sunday, May 21st in St. Vincent Hospital. Her husband of 56 years, Henry E. Knowlton died in 2011. She leaves two sons, Richard C. Knowlton, and James E. Knowlton both of Worcester; three daughters, Janet E. Knowlton of Ware, Sandra L. Knowlton-Soho and her husband, Gregory Soho of Windsor, VT, and Deborah A. Corey and her husband, Edward Cenerizio of Sugar Hill, NH; a sister, Irene Rawdon of Worcester; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, John Tomporis and Nicholas Tomporis; and three sisters, Virginia Balchunas, Annie Safford, and Helen Aucoin.
She was born in Worcester the daughter of George D. and Ellen (Packard) Tomporis and graduated from the former High School of Commerce in 1944. Katherine worked for American Steel and Wire Company as a secretary for many years and previously worked during WWII for the United States Navy Department in Washington, D.C. She was a member of All Saint’s Church for over 90 years and volunteered for 15 years in the Christian Education Office, and as a poll worker. She was also a member of the ushering committee at church; AARP and the Audubon Society in Massachusetts. Katherine was an accomplished artist; she enjoyed traveling and vacations, especially in Wells, Maine.
Her funeral is Friday, May 26th with a service at 11:00 a.m. in All Saint’s Church, 10 Irving Street (Please go directly to church). Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to All Saints Church, 10 Irving Street, Worcester, MA 01609.
