David Dowd, age 71, of Brockton, MA, passed away on May 12, 2023 after a brief illness. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and loyal friend, he spent his retirement years doing what brought him the most joy: playing cribbage and poker with his buddies, sharing meals with his family on holidays and regular days, listening to classic rock and blues, and spoiling his dog Lucy.
David was a kind, generous and peaceful man. He was a veteran of the US Air Force. A plumber by trade, he often did work for strangers for free if he knew they couldn’t afford it. He was also always available to friends and family to help them out with home projects. He took great pride in his own backyard pool which was always sparkling clean and usually filled with people.
David grew up in Randolph, MA and was the son of the late Albert and Mary Dowd (Sanborn) of Randolph, MA. He leaves behind five siblings: Eileen Ramanauskas, wife of the late Remigijus “Ray” Ramanauskas of NH; Margaret “Peg” Ghosh Roy, married to Amitabha “Roy” Ghosh Roy of Milton, MA; Albert “Chip” Dowd, married to Melissa “Misty” Dowd of Sturbridge, MA; Christine Kent, married to Vern Kent of CA; and Gerard “Gerry” Dowd, married to Anita Dowd, of FL. He was preceded in death by his sister Kathleen “Kathy” Holland, of Randolph, MA.
He met his wife Marianne (Castagna) at Cardinal Spellman High School (Class of 1970) and they were married for 50 years. David was the proud father of three daughters: Heather Dowd “Kooks,” married to Giuseppe “Beppe” Salerno of Italy; Colleen Florence “Bean,” married to Casey Florence of Bridgewater, MA; and Anna Dowd “Spike” of Bridgewater, MA. He has two grandchildren, Abigail and Isabelle, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
