Virginia, Ginny (Stetson) Staples was born on January 19, 1929 in Stoughton, Massachusetts. She grew up next to her grandparent’s farm, which had served as Stoughton’s “poor farm” years earlier. While she and her brother Robert were growing up, her mother cared for many foster children. One of them, Sandy Schechter, became her lifelong “sister”. Graduating from high school during WWII, Ginny started a summer job caring for a young soldier’s mother who was recovering from surgery. That young soldier, Bob, eventually became her husband of 74 years. Ginny and Bob spent many years serving at the First Congregational Church in Stoughton. They were involved in the couples club, the amateur theater group, and Ginny was in the choir wherever she lived. Her children Shirley and David remember yearly family camping vacations. Ginny loved outdoor as well as indoor activities such as cooking and crafting. She worked as a Stoughton elementary school aide prior to retiring in Manomet, MA and Florida. Bob and Ginny spent decades as snowbirds and enjoyed traveling throughout the United States as well as abroad. They spent their later years at Americana Cove in St. Petersburg, Florida and made many lasting friends there and at their local church. During the summer months in Manomet, Ginny gardened and spent time with friends. She also kept busy finding opportunities to serve at her church, Second Church of Plymouth. During the Covid years, they returned to Massachusetts and spent winters in Beverly, MA with her son’s family. Ginny is survived by her children David and his wife Sharon (Stevens), and Shirley and her husband Dan Kelley, her 5 grandchildren: Amy, Katie, Heather, Nathan, and Kristen, and by her 9 great grandchildren.
